Commenting on Gordon Brown's announcement that he would not be calling a General Election this year, Conservatives in Northampton have given their reaction.

Michael Ellis,Conservative candidate for Northampton North, said "I believe Gordon Brown cancelled this election because he feared he would lose.

"By bringing forward several announcements, he led everyone to believe there would be an election, but the latest polls led him to bottle out at the last minute. It is a humiliating retreat."
